So this is the bit where I get to talk about myself…and as an ‘artist’ this should be easy right?! WRONG! I’m just me. Rhian! But as a biography that is pretty poor…so here goes!
I live with my daughter in a small village in South West Wales. I grew up in the next village over so as you can probably tell, I’m a bit of a home bird! I became a Mami to my beautiful little girl in 2017 who simply completed me. I am blessed with the best family anyone could ask for – without them I’d be nothing. Becoming a mam is probably the scariest thing to ever happen to me and yet it’s the most rewarding thing I’ve ever achieved. I am also an auntie to two wonderful nephews who mean the world to me! Lazy pyjama days are my most favourite kind of days. I love music, coffee, snow, chocolate, online shopping and America! I hate toothpaste, buttons, sand and any kind of animal cruelty.
The thing that probably stands out most about me though, rightly or wrongly, is the fact that I am disabled. The wheelchair kind of disabled. Does it define me? Nope. Has it shaped me? Most definitely! And this is why I think I have found the right vocation for me. Kids are so brutally honest and non-judgmental. They just want to get answers for their innocent curiosity. And I love nothing more than when my little clients grill me on my disability and take rides in my wheelchair 🙂
For as far back as I can remember I’ve had a camera. I was the one on our family holidays who took all the photos. I was the friend on the nights out who always took the embarrassing shots. I was the colleague who always took the cringy photos at all the office do’s. And now I’m the annoying mam who records every moment of my daughter’s life! When I first started out in business, I had a very definite idea of what I wanted my style to be. But as time has gone on and I’ve photographed more and more families, I have learned that my style is just to capture whoever I have in front of me that day in a way which best portrays them. I try to make all my clients feel as relaxed as possible; that’s VERY important to me because I remember those stiff formal family portraits we all had done when we were kids. Yuck! I love children and I am definitely happiest to specialise in photographing them. But that’s not to say I don’t like to broaden my skills by dabbling with new areas of photography. Something which I hope to continue to do 🙂
I’m humbled to be asked to be a part of people’s special milestones and to capture the most special people in their lives. I love what I do and I hope that shows in my work. And that’s me in a nutshell 🙂
